About this tool

Grayscale conversion replaces color with shades determined by image luminance, producing a neutral result suitable for print preparation, visual studies, memorials, and classic styling.

Unlike a harsh threshold effect, grayscale retains highlights, midtones, shadows, texture, and photographic detail.

Transparent areas in supported source images remain transparent in the exported PNG.

Frequently asked questions

Is grayscale the same as pure black and white?

Grayscale preserves many shades between black and white. A one-bit black-and-white image contains only two colors.

Does the output keep the original dimensions?

Yes. Width and height remain unchanged while the color information is converted to grayscale.

Can VCM Suite see the image?

No. The conversion runs inside your browser and the photo is not uploaded.
